As the last stop in a whirlwind La Union visit, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. dropped by San Agustin Elementary School in San Fernando City to lead the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP) Caravan.
Among the services extended in the YAKAP caravan are medical check-up, free medicines, laboratory tests such as urinalysis and complete blood count, and diagnostic examinations like x-ray and ultrasound.
Spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), YAKAP provides medical care to students, teachers and school personnel in fulfillment of President Marcos’ directive to make health services more accessible to Filipinos.
San Agustin Elementary School currently has around 500 enrolled students.
DepEd has designated public school clinics as YAKAP providers to strengthen the services of school clinics.
Aside from visiting the healthcare program at the school, President Marcos also led the distribution of food packs from the DepEd to 1,000 teaching and non-teaching staff from San Fernando City who were affected by Typhoon Emong that hit the region last July.
President Marcos assured Ilocanos of continued support from the government. | PND
