President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is considering extending the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief P/Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil as the nation approaches the 2025 election period.
Speaking at the Tesla Center launch in Taguig on Monday, President Marcos acknowledged the importance of leadership stability within the PNP during a critical election season.
“So, pinag-aaralan namin. But I think that is probably a very strong argument to keep him on, at the very least, until after the elections,” President Marcos said when asked to comment on the matter.
Marbil, who assumed the PNP’s top post in April 2024, is set to retire on February 7, 2025, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy Sambisig Class of 1991, Marbil’s tenure has been marked by initiatives on law enforcement modernization and crime prevention. | PND
